February 16, 2015 at 6 Pm.<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-32 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/ebonydoughboys.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/369-marching-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"369 marching\" width=\"229\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ebonydoughboys.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/369-marching-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ebonydoughboys.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/369-marching.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Affectionate known as Algie by friends and family Algie is Professionally\u00a0 employed at the NJ Department of Health Laboratories since 1982 where he became its <b>first African-American Chemist<\/b> in 1987.\u00a0In 2003 Algernon Ward Jr. became the NJDHSS\u2019 <b>first African-American Research Scientist.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In his personal life, while pursuing twin passions of acting and history,\u00a0 Algie \u00a0is a founding member of the<i> <b>6<sup>th<\/sup> Regiment United States Colored Troops, Civil War Reenactors Inc., <\/b><\/i>where he is the President and 1<sup>st<\/sup> Sergeant.\u00a0The regiment expanded to include\u00a0African-American Revolutionary\u00a0War patriots where Algie portrays<i>\u00a0both\u00a0<\/i>a soldier of \u201cThe Black Regiment\u201d the<i>\u00a0<b>1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Rhode Island\u00a0Regiment<\/b><\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Black Joe Brown\u00a0<\/i>a soldier of<i>\u00a0Glover\u2019s Marbleheaders<\/i>.\u00a0As a Continental Militiaman,<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Algie<\/i>\u00a0can be seen in<i>\u00a0<\/i><b>The History Channel<\/b>\u2019s series of\u00a0<i><b>\u201cThe Tech Effect of\u00a0Washington\u00a0Crossing The\u00a0Delaware\u201d.\u00a0<\/b><\/i>In the summer and fall of 2003 Algie was the Featured Reenactor in Part Four \u2013<b>\u00a0<i>\u201cThe Challenge To Freedom\u201d<\/i>\u00a0<\/b>as\u00a0<i>Senator Robert Smalls<\/i>, South Carolina\u2019s first African-American US Senator and Civil War hero, for the\u00a0<b>PBS Mini-Series\u00a0<\/b><i><b>\u00a0Slavery and The Making\u00a0<\/b><\/i><i><b>of America<\/b><\/i> aired on WNET-13 New York in November 2005.<\/p>\n<div>Algie\u2019s image appears in the NJDEP\u2019s<b><i> \u201cOh Freedom\u201d<\/i><\/b> traveling exhibit which<b> <\/b>highlights the fight for freedom on both sides of the Revolutionary War.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For the past 5 years in commemoration of Black History Month the 6<sup>th<\/sup> Regiment USCT presents a program entitled <b><i>\u201cThree Centuries of Black Soldiers\u201d<\/i><\/b> in collaboration with Trenton\u2019s Old Barracks Museum and The Trenton Historical Society. The program exhibits the contributions of African-American military men over the entire span of American military history.\u00a0 Algie\u2019s composed an engaging presentation focused on the history of the local <i>\u201cBlack Doughboys\u201d<\/i> of World War I, many of whom were members of the famous 369<sup>th<\/sup> <i>\u201cHarlem Hellfighters\u201d<\/i> of the all black 93<sup>rd<\/sup> Division.
